Severe Weather Shelter Network and the Lakewood Elks Lodge are partnering together to provide a Warming Site in the city of Lakewood.

Why are we celebrating this partnership? Warming Sites are a very important part of our sheltering structure. Warming Sites provide a specific indoor location for our shelter guests to gather to wait for transportation to the Host Site where they will spend the night.

Shelter guests arrive at the Warming Site about 6pm to confirm their reservation for the night, enjoy a hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate and have access to bathrooms while they wait. Our volunteers welcome each guest and make themselves available to be a listening ear as our guests download their day.

Volunteers at the Warming Site communicate with our Host Site to make sure everyone is on the same page regarding numbers of guests and timing of transportation.

Our shelter guests have been waiting for transportation outside of New Life in Christ Church on life threatening winter nights. We have had 2 volunteers at the Pick up site to get folks checked in and then loaded into the vans to wait until time to leave. This process can be very challenging when a person is very cold.

You are needed! We are inviting volunteers to join us right now. Your invitation is included in the link below. Please feel free to print it out and share it with others you know who may be interested in helping us staff this new Warming Site.

Celebrating new partnerships,
