Prayer is critical

We are living an experience we never expected in our life times. I wonder how many generations have said or thought that? Black plague, World War 1, World War 2, famine in Africa and the nether reaches of the world. Some things impact locally. Others have a worldwide impact. All of them bring a common response. People kneel to pray when they don’t know what else to do.

Severe Weather Shelter Network values prayer. Prayer undergirds our shelter nights. We can tell when prayer was missed in our preparations.

There is a dramatic difference in the way our guests interact with each other and with our volunteers when prayer has filled the space ahead of their arrival. The chaos of checking everyone in and getting their possessions put away is less stressful. Dinner is more congenial.

The overnight hours are quieter and more peaceful.

Each shelter night volunteers are invited to come together before the guests arrive and spend a few minutes praying for safety, health and peace. We pray over the building, over the guests and volunteers in all forms of service and over the dinner we are about to share. Simple. Straightforward.

Severe Weather Shelter Network is now three weeks into the 40 HANDS in forty days campaign with 39 other worthy organizations. Here is my invitation for you:

  • Visit 40handsinfortydays.org and review the organizations represented
  • Spend a few minutes and pray for each organization represented in this campaign
  • Give $25 or more, as you are led, to Severe Weather Shelter Network with your one time gift today.

Thank you! We believe in the power of prayer to change lives and communities. We invite and cherish your prayers for us, and more importantly for our guests.
