We are always looking for more people who share our heart with providing shelter and ministering to the homeless. Here are some different volunteer opportunities we have if you are considering joining our team.

Our volunteers join Severe Weather Shelter Network to help prevent homeless deaths due to exposure. We love that about them! In the process our volunteers come to love our guests and want to spend more time with them. We strongly encourage our volunteers connect with our partners to continue building relationships with our guests.

Host Church Volunteers are connected to one of seven weeknight teams at a Host Site of their choosing. Each team serves only when severe weather has been declared by the Severe Weather Shelter Network. Each team is made up of evening hosts, food volunteers, and overnight hosts. Volunteers will serve an average of 4-6 nights between October 1st and April 30th each season.

Network Volunteer opportunities are connected to the greater network and help make important connections for our guests on shelter nights. Network Volunteers serve in the warming sites, drive vans to transport our guest to and from the shelter sites and answer phones on the weekend to help our guests add their name to the nightly roster. These volunteers commit to serve weekly between October 1st and April 30th each season.

Administrative Volunteers are important to the behind the scenes support of SWSN. Administrative Volunteers help with mailings, data entry, communications and social media updates. SWSN continues to grow and develop our Volunteer Development and Fundraising Teams to assist in the on-going support of the ministry. These volunteers determine their availability according to the service they desire to provide and work directly with the Leadership Team.

Volunteer Feedback

Would you be willing to leave feedback on your experience as a volunteer?

“It was the look on our guest’s face that changed my own heart and I became passionate for the care of even just one person…” – SWSN Evening Host

These folks are people just like me. Some of them were just one paycheck away from the streets. That could have been me.” – SWSN Driver
