What should I give homeless people when I see them on the corner?
This can be a very hard question for us to answer. Often, people feel like handing their loose change over to someone who is on the corner will help the most. That is not always the case and not what we most often suggest. Some of our best suggestions are:
- Gift cards to Mcdonalds, Taco Bell, or other restaurants
- Resources lists (with partners in that area that can help)
- Water bottles, snack bags, or other prepped food (shelf sustainable)
We don’t suggest giving cash most of the time because there are a good amount of panhandlers that aren’t actually in need. However, if you truly feel like you are supposed to give someone money, you can certainly do that too.
