We are always looking for more people who share our heart with providing shelter and ministering to the homeless. Here are some different volunteer opportunities we have if you are considering joining our team.
Where We Operate
Volunteer Opportunities (October-April)
Hospitality Host – 3pm- 6pmNeeded to help with set-up for each site. Check in, hospitality and care of the guests as they arrive and get settled. Leave the facility once the guests have transitioned to shelter (approx. 6:30pm). (Must be 16 years of age with parental consent or older)
Hospitality Host – 6pm- 9pm Needed to help with set-up for each site. Check in, hospitality and care of the guests as they arrive and get settled. Leave the facility once the guests have bedded down for the night (approx. 9pm). (Must be 16 years of age with parental consent or older) Food Provider – Drop Off between 3pm – 6pm Provide a hot meal for the guests. Bring their prepared dish at 5pm and may also help manage the kitchen during the meal and clean up after the meal. (Must be 16 years of age with parental consent or older) Kitchen Assistant/Server – 5:30pm – 8pm Kitchen assistants are needed each severe weather night. Help set up the food, serve the food to guests, and clean the kitchen after dinner. (Must be 16 years of age with parental consent) Overnight Hosts – 6pm-7:30am Hosts are needed each severe weather night. Help provide hospitality in the evening, assess guest’s needs while at the facility, and take a turn being awake during the overnight hours. Males and females are needed for each team each night the Host Site is open. (Must be 18 years of age or older)
Laundry Assistant (As Needed) Pick up blankets and towels at the end of each shelter week. Return to the facility the next shelter week. Each volunteer may have up to 2-3 loads
Phone Reservation Volunteer 10am – 1pm Receive calls at home via a forwarded number, add guests to the shelter roster on severe weather days and communicate shelter location and transportation options for our guests Morning Shelter Site Monitor – 7am – 8am Assist morning shelter staff with encouraging guests to move off the church property and direct them to the nearest bus stop. Volunteers will need to ensure all guests leave the church properly by 7:30am and monitor the property until 8am to ensure no one is loitering on the property.
Afternoon Shelter Site Monitor – 2 – 3pmMonitor the church property and advise guests that they are not allowed on property until 3pm. Volunteers will need to ask any guests that arrive early to come back at 3pm. Registration Assistant (As Needed) Assist with various tasks to complete our guest’s registration process such as printing ID’s, conducting registration questions, and data entry.
