Put your HANDS up for the power of Collaboration!

Severe Weather Shelter Network believes in the power of Collaboration. In fact, we would be unable to accomplish our seasonal sheltering with out the strength of our volunteers and our community partners.

One of our values is “Unified in our purpose and passion”. What does that mean? It means that while we are founded and strengthened in the Scriptures and our faith in Jesus Christ, we still welcome and embrace others in our community, regardless of their faith or background, who have a heart and passion for serving people experiencing homelessness.

I celebrate the collaborative partnerships we have with Jefferson and Arapahoe counties and the cities of Lakewood, Englewood, Littleton and Arvada. This is the government coming along side the shelter work we are doing and supporting us through Police departments and Communications departments. Through these cities we have welcomed volunteers to join us as we serve our brothers and sisters living on the streets.

I celebrate the collaborative partnerships we have with other non-profit organizations like Giving Heart, Mean Street Ministry, The Action Center, Family Tree and Community Table in Arvada. Change The Trend in Englewood and Heading Home in Jefferson County are also collaborative groups to which we belong. All of us serve the same people experiencing homelessness in our context. We each bring different gifts and services to the table that empower our guests to make different decisions about how they will live.

The power of Collaboration is in being able to bring the best of what you have and share it with others who are willing to share the best of what they have in order to benefit everyone.

Severe Weather Shelter Network is so incredibly blessed to serve along side volunteers from all walks of life and faith. Shelter nights are truly one of the best examples of people, including our guests, setting aside their differences to simply get through the night safely and be valued for who we are.

Loving life,

Lynn Ann Huizingh
